Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.
Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to get a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.
The player's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was over.
Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.
The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a third set.
The opponent saved four early chances in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.
Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
